舞台は現代の日本。日本サッカー協会は2050年までにワールドカップで優勝するという目標を掲げている。この目標を達成するためには、世界に通用するストライカーの育成が不可欠だと考えた。全国から300人の高校生ストライカーが招集され、日本代表の権利を懸けて、監獄のような施設で様々な条件下で試合に挑む。生き残れるのはただ一人。選ばれなかった者は、一生日本代表に呼ばれないというペナルティーが課される。
The setting is modern Japan. The Japanese Football Association has set a goal of winning the World Cup by 2050. In order to achieve this goal, they felt it was imperative to develop world-class strikers. Three hundred high school strikers from all over the country are called up to play games under various conditions in a facility that resembles a prison cell, with the right to represent Japan on the line. Only one can survive. Those who are not selected will be penalized by not being called up to the national team for the rest of their lives.
主人公「潔世一（いさぎよいち）」。名門校で二年生エースを張るだけのスペックはあるものの、ストライカーとしての武器といえるものを持たない平凡な選手だった。一次選考で優れた「空間認識能力」が備わっていることに気づいてからは、フィールド上を把握して未来を予見し、DFの裏側に抜け出してからのダイレクトプレーで得点するスタイルを確立し、のちにマスコミや海外メディアから「青い監獄の申し子」と呼ばれるストライカーへと成長していく。
The main character is “Yoichi Isagi".Although he has the specs to be a second-year ace at a prestigious school, he was a mediocre player with no weapons that could be considered a striker.
