舞台は現代の日本、様々な怪人が人類に襲い掛かる世界。それに対抗するために「ヒーロー協会」が設立され、特殊能力を持ったヒーローたちが魔物に立ち向かい人類を守っていた。この作品の面白いところは、主人公「サイタマ」が弱そうに見えて最強過ぎるところだ。敵も味方も彼をまずバカにするがワンパンチ（一撃）で倒されていく。
The setting is modern Japan, a world where various monsters attack mankind. In order to combat them, the “Hero Association” was established, and heroes with special abilities stand up against the monsters and protect mankind. The interesting point of this work is that the hero “Saitama” looks weak, but he is too strong. Both his enemies and allies make fun of him at first, but he defeats them with one punch (a single blow).
■主人公「サイタマ」は髪の毛と引き換えに最強の力を手に入れる。そして趣味でヒーローになる。ある日サイボーグの「ジェノス」と知り合い「ヒーロー協会」に入れば給料が支給されることを知り、「ジェノス」と共にヒーロー試験に参加する。しかし、強すぎて機械が計測できずC級ヒーローになってしまう。
The main character “Saitama” gets the strongest power in exchange for his hair. He becomes a hero as a hobby. One day, he meets a cyborg named “Genos” and learns that he will be paid if he joins the “Hero Association,” so he joins the hero test with “Genos". However, he is too strong for the machines to measure him, and he becomes a C-class hero.
■「ジェノス」は家族を怪人に殺され自身も重症を負ったところを「クセーノ博士」と出会い、サイボーグになって家族の仇を討つことを決意する。ある日、怪人と戦っている時に「サイタマ」に助けられる。「サイタマ」の圧倒的な強さに惚れ込み彼を先生と呼んで弟子となる。「ヒーロー協会」に「サイタマ」を誘い、共に試験を受けるが「サイタマ」はC級だったのに対し「ジェノス」はS級ヒーローとなってしまう。更にイケメンであることから人気が急上昇する。それでも「サイタマ」を先生と慕い毎日「サイタマ」の家に通う。
"Genos", whose family was killed by a monster and himself severely injured, meets "Dr. Xeno" and decides to avenge his family by becoming a cyborg. One day, while fighting a monster, he is rescued by “Saitama". He falls in love with the overwhelming strength of “Saitama," calls him “Master,” and becomes his apprentice. He invites “Saitama" to join the "Hero Association" and they take the exam together, but “Saitama" is a C-class hero while "Genos" is an S-class hero. Furthermore, his popularity skyrockets because he is handsome. Still, he respects “Saitama" as his teacher and goes to “Saitama's” house every day.
■「キング」は「ヒーロー協会」に所属するS級ヒーロー。彼は災害レベルの怪人を一撃で倒したとされており、怪人も恐れる最強のヒーローとされている。しかし実は怪人とは一度も闘ったことがないゲーマーであり、すべて「サイタマ」が倒した現場に偶然居合わせただけなのだ。怪人に襲われて逃げ出したところを「サイタマ」に救われ実は闘ったことがない事を話すが、「サイタマ」は「お前は皆のヒーローだから」と秘密にする。それ以降「サイタマ」とはゲーム友達である。
The “King” is an S-class hero belonging to the “Hero Association". He is said to have defeated a disaster-level monster with a single blow, and is regarded as the strongest hero that even monsters fear. In fact, however, he is a gamer who has never fought a monster, and was only there when “Saitama” defeated him. When he is attacked by a monster and runs away, he is saved by “Saitama” and tells him that he has never actually fought a monster, but “Saitama” keeps it a secret, saying, “You are everyone's hero". Since then, he and “Saitama” have been friends in video games.
■「バング」は「ヒーロー協会」に所属するS級ヒーローである。「流水岩砕拳」という流派の拳法道場の師範である。ある日地球に落下してくる巨大な隕石を食い止められずにいた時、「サイタマ」が一撃で隕石を粉砕したのを目撃している。「サイタマ」の強さを知る数少ない人物である。弟子であった「ガロウ」がヒーロー狩りとなり、怪人となったことを悔やんでいる。
"Bang” is an S-class hero belonging to the Hero Association. He is a master of the "Flowing water crushes rocks of Kempo" martial arts gym, a style of kung-fu called Ryusui Iwan Shattered Fist. One day, when he was unable to stop a huge meteorite from falling to the earth, he witnessed “Saitama” smash the meteorite with a single blow. He is one of the few people who know the strength of “Saitama. He regrets that his student "Garou" became a hero hunter and a monster.
■「フブキ」は「ヒーロー協会」に所属するB級ヒーローである。B級に上がってきた「サイタマ」を自分のグループに勧誘するために家に訪問してくる。しかし勧誘を断った「サイタマ」を今度は脅迫する。「サイタマ」の家にはS級ヒーローの「ジェノス」と「キング」が居て驚く「フブキ」。それ以来彼女は「サイタマ」が何者なのか調べるため彼を追い回す。彼女の姉はＳ級ヒーローの「タツマキ」で、強い姉に劣等感を抱いている。
"Fubuki” is a B-class hero belonging to the ”Hero Association". She visits “Saitama” at his home to recruit him to her group after he has moved up to the B-class. When he refuses, however, She threatens him. "Fubuki" is surprised to find S-class heroes "Genos" and "King" at his house. Since then, she has been chasing after him to find out who he is. Her sister is "Tatsumaki", an S-class hero, and she feels inferior to her stronger sister.
■「タツマキ」は「ヒーロー協会」に所属するS級ヒーローである。彼女はS級の中でも２番目の強さで超能力を使う。だが彼女の超能力も「サイタマ」には通用しなかった。
"Tatsumaki” is an S-class hero belonging to the ”Hero Association". She is the second strongest among the S-class heroes and uses her supernatural powers. However, her supernatural powers were no match for “Saitama".
■「ソニック」は暗殺を仕事にしており音速で動くことができる。そのスピードは「ジェノス」を超える。しかし、彼のスピードよりも「サイタマ」の方が格段に早かった。彼は「サイタマ」に負けたことで根に持ち、度々「サイタマ」に挑戦してくる。
"Sonic” is an assassin by trade and can move at the speed of sound. His speed exceeds that of “Genos”. However, "Saitama" was much faster than him. He is bitter about losing to "Saitama" and often challenges "Saitama".
■「ガロウ」は元「バング」の弟子である。彼は幼き頃にヒーロー役の子供たちに怪人として虐められていたためヒーローを恨んでいる。そして人間でありながら怪人と名乗り「ヒーロー狩り」を行っている。「サイタマ」の圧倒的な強さに敗れた後、強さを求めて本物の怪人となる。そして神レベルの強さを手に入れる。
"Garou” is a former apprentice of "Bang." He hates heroes because he was mistreated as a monster by children who played the role of heroes when he was a child. Although he is a human, he calls himself a monster and hunts heroes. After being defeated by the overwhelming strength of “Saitama,” he seeks strength and becomes a real monster. He then attains the strength of a god.
■「ブラスト」はS級ヒーローで１番強いとされているが謎が多い男である。「ヒーロー協会」の要請にも来ないことが多い。時空を操る超能力者だと言われている。
"Blast” is the strongest of the S-class heroes, but he is a man of many mysteries. He often does not come to the “Hero Association” when requested. He is said to be a psychic who can manipulate time and space.
