ピンク・レディ（Pink Lady）

1976年デビューした女性デュオ、根本美鶴代（ねもとみつよ/通称：ミー）と増田啓子（ますだけいこ/通称：ケイ）は地方の同じ中学校の演劇部だった。二人は歌手オーディション番組「スター誕生！！」の決勝大会に出場し、歌唱力が認められレコード会社にスカウトされる。当初は化粧もしない素朴な素人であったが、レコード会社はスタイルの良い二人にミニスカートやキャミソースなどのセクシーな衣装を着せ、奇抜な振り付けで踊る「ピンク・レディー」というグループ名でデビューさせる。デビューシングル「ペッパー警部」がミリオンセラーとなる。当初は肌の露出が多い衣装から子供が観る時間帯の番組には出演できなかった。しかし「ピンク・レディ」の奇抜な踊りを子供たちが面白がってマネするようになり人気が爆発する。「日本レコード大賞」では新人賞を受賞、その後リリースする新曲は次々とミリオンセラーになり、地方出身の素朴な二人の女性がスターにまでなるシンデレラストーリーとなる。当時一番人気のアイドルグループ「キャンディーズ」と肩を並べるほどだった。

The female duo "Mitsuyo Nemoto (nickname. Me)" and "Keiko Masuda (nickname. Keiko)", who debuted in 1976, were members of the drama club at the same local junior high school. They participated in the finals of the singer audition program "Star Birth!" and their singing ability was recognized and they were scouted by a record company. At first, they were simple amateurs without make-up, but the record company dressed the stylish duo in miniskirts, camisodes, and other sexy outfits, and had them debut under the group name "Pink Ladie," dancing to eccentric choreography. Their debut single "Inspector Pepper" became a million seller. At first, the group was not allowed to perform in programs that children watch because of their skin-tight costumes. However, children began to imitate the eccentric dance moves of the "Pink Ladie" for fun, and their popularity exploded. The group won the Best Newcomer Award at the "Japan Record Awards," and their subsequent releases became million-sellers one after another.　They are real Cinderella stories. They were on par with the most popular idol group of the time, the "Candies".
