1980年にアイドルとしてデビューして以来、現在でも活躍する歌手。伸びのある透き通った歌声と可愛らしい容姿や振る舞いでデビューから人気を博し、24曲連続でオリコン週間シングルチャート第1位を獲得した。1985年に結婚、1986年に長女「沙也加（ディズニーアニメ「アナと雪の女王」の日本語吹き替え版にてアナ役を演じた）」を出産。出産後も歌い続け「ママドル」という呼称も生まれた。しかし、2021年に一人娘の沙也加を事故で亡くしている。

She married in 1985 and gave birth to her first daughter, "Sayaka" (who played the role of “Anna” in the Japanese dubbed version of the Disney animation “FROZEN”) in 1986. After giving birth, she continued to sing, earning the nickname “Mam pop idol". However, she lost her only daughter, "Sayaka", in an accident in 2021.
